The government has given the final go-ahead to the draft of Financial Reporting Bill-2014, which aims to bring the audit process under an independent body.
The approval was given at the weekly meeting of the Cabinet held on Monday at the Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said: “Financial reporting is an important tool to develop public and private institutions, corporate entities, and bank, insurance, and financial institutions.”
He said after the passage of the law, an 11-strong financial reporting council would be constituted and its chairman would be appointed through a search committee.
