BSS, Kushtia :
Joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, MP, said here on Monday that the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has attached much importance to regain the country’s lost glory in football.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is a sports-enthusiast person. She could be termed as the sole claimant for the achievements in Bangladesh cricket. By this time, she has given attention to the country’s football. Football in Bangladesh will soon regain its lost glory,” he hoped.
Hanif said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the Inter-university Football Competition-2015 at the Islamic University campus here in the district.
“There was a golden era of the country’s football once upon a time when many reputed footballers were born in the sporting arena. But, players of such a standard are not born now due to absence of practice in sports,” the Awami League leader said hoping that sportsmen of the university will retain the successes accomplished in various discipline of sports in future.
Pro-vice-chancellor of Islamic University Prof Dr Md Shahinur Rahman presided over the inaugural ceremony and was also addressed, among others, by president of Bangladesh University Parishad (Council) and Inter-University Sports Organisation and vice-chancellor of Haji Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University Prof Md Ruhul Amin.
