After four years of the killing of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, the journalist leaders at a rally again have urged the government to arrest and punishment the killers in one month.
They threatened to go for a tough movement if the government failed to bring the killers of Sagar-Runi to book for trial.
The journalist leaders admitted that the movement to press home their demand for the arrest and punishment of the killers hampered due to lack of united initiatives of the leaders.
They were demanding the trial of the killers of Sagar-Runi at the rally on the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) premises on Thursday. The DRU organised the rally to mark the fourth death anniversary of the journalist couple.
DRU President Jamal Uddin said the journalists hoped that they would see the trial
of the killers of Sagar-Runi, but they are frustrated. Even no specific clue of the brutal incident was found out.
“We want the arrest and the punishment of the killers of our colleagues. We are giving the Home Ministry one month time to dig out the clue of the incident. Otherwise, we will launch tough movement, including mass contact, procession and rally on the street,” Jamal Uddin said.
Former DRU president Mostaque Hossain, general secretaries Sajjad Alam Khan Topu and Elias Hossain, incumbent general secretary Razu Ahmed, joint-secretary Sajjad Hossain, organising secretary Sheikh Mohammad Jamal, office secretary Mehedi Azad Masum, training and research secretary Halim Mohammad, publicity secretary Kafi Kamal and women affairs secretary Sumi Khan spoke at the rally, among others.
Megh, the only son of Sagar-Runi, along with his maternal uncle Nowsher Ali took part in the rally.
