UNB, Dhaka :
The Supreme Court on Thursday gave the government a week to publish gazette notification on the lower court
judges’ discipline rules.
An eight-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, came up with order following a petition. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam who stood for the state said the Law Ministry got seven
days to publish gazette on the rules. Earlier on November 7, the Supreme Court asked the state to publish gazette on the discipline rules for the trial court judges by November 7 and submit a report before it in this regard.
On December 2, 1999, the Supreme Court in the Masdar Hossain case issued a seven-point directive, including formulating separate discipline rules for the lower court judges.
However, the rules are yet to be formulated. On May 7 last year, the Law Ministry sent the draft of the rules to the Supreme Court which is similar to the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1985.
