UNB, Dhaka :
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday said the democracy established in the country with the blood of hundreds of martyrs is still not out of danger as the government has enchained the nation with a one-party cruel rule.
In a message, she said, “The country’s citizens’ freedom has been put at stake by chaining once again the entire nation with one-party harsh rule through the Janiya-5 unilateral polls.” The BNP chief issued the message on the occasion of ‘Autocracy Fall and Democracy Free Day’, commemorating military ruler HM Ershad’s bowing out in the face of a mass upheaval on December 6, 1990.
“Our democracy has got stumbled again and again on its march forward. But, the country’s democracy-loving people made a safe journey of it by overcoming all the obstacles. Our democracy is not safe now,” she said.
Khaleda alleged that the true colour of the cruel and authoritarian one-party rule
is exposing gradually through the attitude of current egime. She claimed that the Awami League having the spirit of one-party Baksal rule together with the autocrat who had annihilated democracy in the 80s is gradually making all the democratic institutions as debrides. “They’ve removed the non-party caretaker government system, initiated with the consent of all parties, from the constitution. This undemocratic evil force is gradually stanching people’s basic and constitutional rights.”
