Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said government is continuing its effort to develop country’s health service and take it to the doorsteps of the poor.
The minister came up with the observations on Saturday while addressing a discussion organized in the city’s Krishibid Institute marking the successful surgeries on 3,000 children to fix cleft lip and palate.
US-based Smile Trane, Care Medical Hospital and Child Health Awareness Foundation organized the discussion. Professor Dr Pervin Fatima, president of the governing body of Care Medical Hospital, presided over the function, which was addressed by Principal Information Officer A K M Shameem Chowdhuri, former Secretary Sohrab Hossain, Prof Dr Bijay Krishna Das and Smile Trane Country Director Mostafijur Rahman.
A documentary titled “Smile Beyond the Sky” was screened at the function, aimed at creating awareness regarding the people with cleft lip and palate problems. A colorful rally was brought out from in front of Care Medical Hospital and ended at Krishibid Institute after parading through different intersections.
