M M Jasim :
The closed medical colleges are admitting students in MBBS courses under 2017-18 session ignoring the Health Ministry’s order.
The government shut eight such colleges for multiple irregularities on September 29 this year.
Even those college administrations advertised for admission in the national dailies and online portals.
The government asked eight private medical colleges not to enroll any student in the MBBS programme for 2017-18 academic sessions for their failure to comply with the conditions preserved in the private medical college policies.
The colleges are Shahabuddin Medical College, Ad-din Bashundhara Medical College, Eyeche Medical College, Care Medical College, Northern International Medical College. Ashiyan Medical College in Dhaka, Nightingale Medical College in Ashulia and City Medical College of Gazipur.
Contrarily, the authorities of the medical colleges have been trying to convince the students arguing that they have already got permission from the Ministry to enroll students in their colleges. Their guardians are being convinced for admission in such colleges.
A good number of students have already been admitted to the aforementioned medical colleges.
“The students don’t know what will happen if the Ministry does not recognize their certificates and academic life. As a result, both time and money will be wasted and their life will be frustrated, an official of a medical college wishing anonymity told The New Nation on Tuesday.
An official of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) said that the students who were admitted to the closed medical colleges would not get the recognition of BMDC.
Professor Dr Abdur Rashid, Director of Directorate of Health, said, the Ministry has known the cheating of the closed medical colleges. “It is prohibited to admit in such medical colleges. We have already circulated to the nation. We will not take any responsibility of any student if they admit there after learning the Ministry’s direction,” he said.
It may be mentioned that there are 31 government medical colleges and 69 private medical colleges in the country. As many as 9,568 seats are in all medical colleges. Of them, 3,318 seats in government medical colleges and 6,250 seats in private medical colleges.
