Gonoashasthya Kendra (GK) Trusty Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury on Tuesday accused the government of rejecting to approve GK developed antibody and antigen testing kits for COVID-19, but it was allowing the imported kit only for purposes.
He regretted that the government disallowed their kits without basic reason.
“The current government serves the businesspeople only,” said Dr. Zafrullah at an event of Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhanmondi of the capital.
The GK organised the event in its all 30 centres across the country to
honour the COVID-19 frontline fighters.
GK Director Mohammad Shawkat Ali, among others, addressed the event moderated by its media Adviser Jahangir Alam Mintu.
Dr. Zafrullah said, “Our antibody and antigen testing kits are ready. But the government did not approve them. Now they are giving permission to import kits. It is nothing but for business purposes.”
He said that the government had no accountability to the people.
He said that a free and fair mid-term election is needed for an accountable government.
“If a democratic government is elected in mid term vote, the health sector will be developed,” the veteran freedom fighter said.
The GK trusty said that their trust spent Tk 10 crore in developing the kits, and people lost opportunities of saving crores of Taka for the government’s wrong decision of not allowing the kits.
“The GK will not apply again for the approval of their testing kits, but those will be given to the government if we are asked,” Dr. Chowdhury said.
Dr. Zafrullah expressed his observation saying that the doctors, nurses and other health workers who were involved with COVID-19 treatment were not given proper support and honours by the government.
“The people who have sacrificed their lives for treating COVID-19 patients are ‘national heroes’. They should be honoured properly,” he said.
