Staff Reporter :
The government has decided to allow setting up of cattle markets in Dhaka, Chittagong, Gazipur and Narayanganj ignoring the recommendations of the National Technical Advisory Committee on tackling coronavirus.
The Local Government Minister said the Technical Advisory Committee’s suggestions are ‘unrealistic’ in the case of a religious festival. He said they have decided to allow setting up cattle markets in different places in accordance with hygiene rules alongside the online cattle sale.
However, the technical committee fears that the situation will deteriorate further with this decision.
To control the pandemic, the National Technical Advisory Committee on Corona on Saturday, advised not to set up cattle markets in Chittagong, Gazipur and Narayanganj.
They said cattle markets should not be set up this year in major cities to contain the corona transmission.
But ignoring the recommendations of the advisory committee, the local government minister today came up with the decision to set up cattle markets in different parts of the country, including the capital.
The minister said they are encouraging people to trade cattle online. “But the cattle markets will be set up maintaining the hygiene rules.”
He also said there has been no such situation so far in the country to sell 20-25 lakh cattle online.
