Govt continues relief work amid COVID-19 crisis

The government is continuing relief activities across the country as part of its humanitarian assistance to mitigate people’s sufferings in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
According to the information received from the district administrations of 64 districts, as of Tuesday, 1 lakh 53 thousand 217 metric tons of rice has been allocated as relief and of the volume, 1 lakh 19 thousand metric tons of rice was distributed.
As a result, the number of beneficiary families stood at 1 crore 2 lakh 4 thousand while the number of beneficiaries is 4 crore 55 lakh 29 thousand, an official handout said here on Wednesday.
Besides, about Taka 85 crore in cash has been allocated so far for purchasing baby food aid and for goods.
Of it, Taka 67 crore 63 lakh 72 thousand 264 has been allocated as cash assistance and Taka 53 crore 8 lakh 60 thousand 23 was distributed.
As a result, the number of beneficiary families stands at 61 lakh 24 thousand 388 while the number of beneficiaries is 3 crore 14 lakh 69 thousand 889.
About Taka 17 crore 54 lakh has been allocated so far for baby food aid and Tk 12 crore 76 lakh 9 thousand 496 was distributed in this regard.
