Govt committed to ensure sustainable industrialization: Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu today said the present government is committed to ensure sustainable and environment-friendly green industrialization aimed at turning the country developed one in the globe.
“To fulfill the commitment, the government is establishing small and medium industries across the country considering the availability of raw materials as per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
The minister was addressing as the chief guest the inaugural ceremony of the “National Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Fair-2017” organised by SME Foundation at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.
Among others, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki and Senior Secretary of Industries Ministry M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan were present in the function.
SME Foundation Chairman K M Habib Ullah presided over the inaugural ceremony.
According to the Bureau of Statistics, the contribution of industrial sector in the country’s GDP growth was 31.54 percent in 2015-16while it was 30.42 percent in 2014-15.
Amu said the contribution trend of industrial sector in GDP growth indicates that Bangladesh is moving forward to turn it as a middle income country by 2021 and a developed country 2041.
Terming the SME sector as the driving force of the country’s economic growth, he said SME is playing a vital role to accelerate the export growth, diversification of products, employment generation and poverty alleviation of the country.
He said the government has kept a provision to allocate 10 percent plots for the SME women entrepreneurs in the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Cooperation (BISIC) industrial cities for enhancing the women participation in the SME sector.
He also urged the private sector to come forward for achieving the aim of sustainable and environment-friendly green industrialization side by side the government.
Around 200 SME institutions are exhibiting their SME products, including Jute, agriculture
and leather products and electrical and Information and Technology goods.
The fair remains open from 10 am to 8 pm.
Three-seminar on “Business Diversification: Preparation of Women Entrepreneurs”, “SME
Friendly Measures in the New VAT Law” and “Non-Financial Services to Customer for Sustainable SME Financing” are being held on the side line of the fair.
