BSS, Rangpur :
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Thursday said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed to accelerate development of backward Rangpur.
“Development plans for accelerating uplift in every sector of Rangpur are continuing so that Rangpur district would be considered as a model district of the country,” Tipu said.
Tipu said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion arranged commemorating memories of martyrs of March 28 Rangpur Cantonment Gherao Day at Bir Muktijoddha Tayebur Rahman High School ground here as the chief guest.
Earlier, he placed wreaths at Smriti Soudha “Rakta Gaurab” in the city where over 400 Bangalees irrespective of caste, creed and religion laid down lives in a bid to capture Rangpur Cantonment by attacking with indigenous weapons on March 28, 1971.
Tipu said March 28 is a red letter day in the history of the War of Liberation when the independence-seeker Bangalees attacked Rangpur cantonment at the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to capture it.
On that day in 1971, only after three-days of the March 25 crackdown by the Pakistani occupation forces on the unarmed innocent Bangalees, people of Rangpur gave evidence of responsibility and love for the country.
“That responsibility and love for the country should be continued and pro-liberation forces should have to work unitedly to build a middle income country by 2021 and a developed Bangladesh by 2041,” he said.
Reiterating to commitment of the present government to establishing a prosperous country, Tipu urged everyone to work with true patriotism, unconquerable bravery and determination of achieving independence as the Bangalees showed on March 28, 1971.
He said pipeline for supplying natural gas to Rangpur region would be established soon for development of the industrial sector in the region where Garment factories would also be set up to create jobs for backward population.
