Country’s government colleges’ teachers will be brought under digital surveillance in a bid to ensure their presence at the classrooms during working hours.
As widespread allegations have been brought against the government colleges’ teachers that they are not punctual and do not take classes regularly, the education ministry has taken the initiative to stop such irregularities.
Meanwhile, the ministry warned the teachers to shun the practice of deception and take the regular class. Otherwise, they will have to face the music, sources in the education ministry said.
A good number of teachers are spending times for their personal affairs instead of taking classes of the students.
When contacted Professor SM Wahiduzzaman, Director General, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, said they are planning to introduce the system in order to trace the teachers during working hours to ensure transparency and accountability.
“Teachers build the future generation and they are the most respected persons in the society. They will perform their duties with sincerity and honesty. But unfortunately some teachers forget their responsibility,” he said.
According to the ministry sources, a total of 15,000 teachers are working in 329 government colleges across the country.
Recently, the DSHE found negligence of work by teachers and it received complaints that many teachers remain absent during work hours in connivance with principals.
An official of the DSHE said the mobile tracking would be done using a 15-digit code, known as the IMEI number of the mobile set.
Besides the mobile device, the biometric attendance system will also be introduced to cross check the teachers’ presence at educational institutions sources added.
The sources also said the tracking system will be first introduced for college principals and later it will be extended to cover other teachers of 327 government colleges across the country.
This network would also include college-monitoring officers because of allegations that many of them do not visit the colleges and submit fictitious reports.
Director of DSHE (Secondary) Professor Md Elias Hossain said,
“We will introduce the system for tracking teachers. We are actively working on it. We have already got proposals from two mobile companies-Teletalk and Banglalink-which would help us in this regard,”
“The system will help us to monitor the movement of teachers during office hours. We’ll do it on a random basis. Action will be taken against teachers found to be absent without submitting a prior leave application,” he said.
