Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Thursday termed the government’s celebration on graduation from Least Development Countries as a ‘perverted farce’.
“In the name of celebration, ruling party men blocked the city roads and halted public life. People had to wait in the streets for transports for hours. It is nothing but a perverted fun,” said the party’s Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi while addressing a press briefing at the party’s central office at Naya Paltan in the city.
Rizvi said, “The government obstructed all of BNP’s peaceful programmes on pleas of public sufferings. The rulers said that they would not allow any programme that might create public sufferings; but they were creating public suffering in the name of celebration.”
He said the ruling party was plundering public money in the name of development as development in the country devoid democracy.
The BNP leader alleged that government officials and employees were being forced to participate in the programme of ruling Awami League.
The BNP leader also condemned the government of taking the move to erase the name of Zia from Shisu Park in Dhaka.
He said that the foreign friends of Bangladesh are also questioning as to how the AL would hold the next election.
“Whether the next polls would be voter less like the January 5, 2014 or inclusive?” they asked.
BNP senior leaders Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Khairul Kabir Khokon and Habibul Islam Habib, among others, were present.
