Govt asks halting political, cultural, religious events

The government on Thursday asked all authorities concerned to suspend all political, cultural and religious events as part of steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus, also known as Covid-19.
Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmad Kaikaus also instructed the field-level administrative officials through a videoconferencing from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to ensure suspension of any such gatherings, including “waz mahfil” and religious events.
According to the sources at the PMO, the videoconferencing was held at 4:15pm.
Earlier in the day, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has confirmed that three more people were diagnosed with coronavirus in the country.
Prof Abul Kalam Azar, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure at a regular media briefing. With the fresh cases, the number of coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 17.
Bangladesh reported its first death from the coronavirus on Wednesday when an elderly man died from the virus.
On March 8, the IEDCR announced for the first time the detection of three Covid-19 patients in Bangladesh.
