With the advent of the Boro season , the government has taken an extra-ordinary initiative to tackle the labour and transport crisis in the Haor areas through seven districts.
Police have arranged safe transports for farm labourers to reach Haor zones of Kishoreganj to harvest Boro.
The seven districts are Kishoreganj, Netrokona ,Sunamganj ,Habiganj ,B’ baria, Moulvibazaar and part of Sylhet.
CMP sent 100 workers on Sunday night to Austagram Upazila from Bakalia of Chattogram by five buses, said Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM ( Bar) , Police Super of Kishoreganj.
At least ,3300 labourers are working in Haor areas of Kishoreganj.
About 1400 more workers will be set to the Haor areas by buses in the next three days, said Police Super.
The 1500 workers, hailing from Kishoreganj, used to reside at Bakalia and would return to their district to work in Paddy fields during harvest.
Police arranged safe transport for their journey maintaining social distance and physical safety.
SP Mashrukur Rahman Khaled also said that the residential facilities for the workers have already been arranged and workers will be quarantined there for 14 days during their work.
CMP checked the body temperature of the workers, gave them masks before they boarded the buses, which were disinfected before boarding.
S.Alam Company has provided us 40 buses. Each bus has 40 seats, for the labourers.
Boro accounted for more than half of the total 3.64 crore tonnes of rice produced in the country in the year 2018-19 fiscal year.
 This year 157800 lakh hectares of land were set for Boro crops in Kishoreganj haor areas.
Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Md. Shamsul Alam told The New Nation that this year the government has provided 180 combined harvest and 137 reaper machines for the six districts.
