The government has approved the setting up of three new private universities.
There are already 92 universities in the country. With the new three, the number will be 95.
Questions have been raised about the standard of some of the private universities. But the government seems to be indifferent to this issue.
Helal Uddin, Additional Secretary of the Education Ministry, said that the three new private universities would be set up in Dhaka, Barisal and Narayanganj.
“Approval orders have been issued in this regard,” he said.
“The Tagore University of Creative Arts piloted by Professor Anisuzzaman will be set up at Keraniganj in Dhaka.
“The University of Global Village” piloted by Infra Polytechnic Institute Chairman Imran Chowdhury with the support of Information and Research Affairs Secretary of Awami League Afjal Hossain and Executive Member of AL Sujit Ray Nandi and former BCL leader Sawkot Hossain Khan in Barisal.
“The Rupayon AKM Shamsuzzoha University” piloted by Liakot Ali Khan will be set up in Narayanganj.
The new universities must have permanent campus, three faculties, six departments, adequate classrooms, library, laboratory, common rooms for both males and females and seminar room.
