Deputy Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel has said that the government provides allowances and scholarships to 9 million people every year under social security activities. He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar at the regional office of the social services department in Muradpur in port city on Saturday morning. He said the present government is working for the development of the backward sections of the society as well as for the development of infrastructure in the field of governance. Almost all the allowances have been introduced while the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is in power.
He further said that the heroic freedom fighters have been given an allowance of Tk 12,000 which is being increased to Tk 20,000 from the next financial year. The seminar was chaired by Nusrat Sultana, Divisional Director, Department of Social Services, and Chittagong and conducted by Kamrul Pasha Bhuiyan, Principal, Regional Training Center, Chittagong.
