Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangshad Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah yesterday said pro-people government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allocated TK 299 crore to protect the Brahmaputra river bank here from the erosion.
“The river bank protection work would be done along the western coastline of the river at Baguria area under Sadar upazila and Balashighat, Ratanpur, Singria, Katlamari and Gana Kabar areas of Fulchhari upazila at the direct supervision of Bangladesh Army”, he said.
Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah, also a local lawmaker, said this as the chief guest while addressing a public meeting at Uttar Urya village of Fulchhari upazila on Thursday afternoon.
He said during the tenure of the present government, massive development works have already been started to protect the upazila from the river erosion.
Rabbi also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for taking quick steps in this regard and allocating the money that was being used for river bank protection work.
Later, the deputy speaker witnessed the dumping of geo-textile sand bags in the area and visited vulnerable Singria site of the upazila and instructed the officials concerned to take urgent step to check erosion by the river Brahmaputra.
