UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Monday suspected that government agency men might have kidnapped poet and columnist Farhad Mazhar.
Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, party senior secrteray general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi demanded the government ensure the
immediate safe return of Farhad Mazhar to his family.
“Farhad Mazhar, a noted columnist, researcher, poet and intellectual, was kidnapped soon after he came out of his residence around 5am. The information so far we’ve got from his family about the incident is touching, inhuman and scary for the nation,” he said.
Rizvi said, their party thinks Mazhar was not kidnapped without the government’s signal. “Any of government agencies or teams is involved with it. We strongly condemn the despicable kidnapping.”
He said Mazhar contacted his wife minutes after he had been kidnapped saying he will be released if the kidnappers are given Tk 35 lakh as ransom.
