The government is giving stipends to children of poor families to ensure education for all and stop school dropouts, he said speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a workshop on stipend for primary education at Agargaon IDB Bhaban in the city.
Department of Primary Education Director General M Alamgir presided over the function while former caretaker government adviser Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman presented a keynote paper.
Primary and Mass Education Secretary Mesbah Ul Alam was present on the occasion, said an official release.
The minister said enrolment of more female students in primary schools removed gender disparity. For this success, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received UNISCO award, he added.
Mostafizur Rahman said the stipend project is most important among the programmes undertaken for development of primary education.
School enrolment increased while dropout stopped following introduction of the stipend programme, he said, adding that this has also raised literacy rate and enhanced empowerment of women.
