Government`s student wing engaged in violence against fellow students : All are helpless

THE ruling party’s student wing is beating up the students who want the implementation of Prime Minister’s quota abolish promise. They are attacking quota reform protesters in the open daylight by tottering arms, abducting them and intimidating them while the Constitution is still in effect which grants people’s rights and rule of law to every citizen.
What underwent in last two days on Dhaka and Rajshahi University campus is the highest expression of any autocratic government intolerance to youths who demanded to keep Prime Minister’s words in parliament that “quota would be abolished”. Situations compel us to say that Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) binning its old legacies has become a tool for putting off democratic movement and rightful demands. The mindless attacks on innocent students on DU campus by BCL activists recall us lawlessness, and picking up protesters by police expressed haplessness of citizens.
The behaviour of the ruling party’s student front, particularly on the campus of the country’s highest seat of learning, provokes one to ask a few fundamental questions. Firstly, don’t the ordinary students have the right to express their demand? Secondly, who gives BCL the right to attack students? Thirdly, do the BCL men above the law?
It is highly dismal that Dhaka University authority also acts as an extra arm of the government though history says DU stood against all discriminations in Pakistan era. Following the countrywide protest in last April, Prime Minister announced in Parliament that there would be no quota. But unfortunately, no advancement is achieved after 80 days of the announcement. The deliberate delay is responsible for untoward situation. The attack, intimidation, abduction, false case filing, deterrence and clampdown may put off the protesters this instance, but in long run, the youths are the decider of the future.
It is for the Prime Minister to keep her word or not. It is condemnable the government party’s students wing is becoming no used to violently suppress the students who demand the implementation of the PM’s promise on quota system made on the floor of the Parliament. To solve all problems through violence should not be a responsible way. Instead of police, the leaders of Student League are openly using brutality against their fellow students. Only because, they want the PM to take the decision as promised. This is so unfair to treat the whole nation as helpless.
