Commentary: Government has taken right decision about religion haters

The comment by the Inspector General of Police Mr AKM Shahidul Hoque on Monday has indeed opened the possibility to put an end to the bloody confrontation between the religion haters and the so-called Islamists who are out to kill the bloggers retaliating their smearing campaign against the Islamic faith.
Speaking to reporters after the killing of Niladri Chatterji Niloy in the city his emphasis on a safe limit between the bloggers freedom of thinking and speech and sanctity of religion makes real sense that the senior policy makers of the government must now take up to put in place.
Later yesterday Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has also warned against writing anything that hurts religious sentiments toughening the stance on the issue after the IGP came up with a similar warning to bloggers.
He said actions as per the existing law will be taken against those who will write anything on blogs or any other media hurting religious sentiment.
The IGP on his part has asked the bloggers not to “cross the limit” while writing on religious issues. He asked them not to hurt anyone’s religious belief as hurting someone’s religious sentiment is a criminal offence.
What is noticeable here is that nobody was so candid before from the government to ask the bloggers to stay within the limit of their freedom of speech. So the bloggers were running their hate campaign against the Islamic belief unleashing a kind of communist revolution against Islamic faith and way of life in Bangladesh.
The unfortunate fact is that Bangladesh is being converting into a godless, electionless socialist country where killing is revolutionary politics and human rights of others have no place.
These bloggers we have are not creative thinkers or free thinkers. As believers of godless politics, they spread religious hatred and support religious oppression. They see politics as war against the opponents. So we must not treat them as intellectuals or real bloggers.
The government should not try to be progressive of the leftist kind, and allow them be guided by the believers in socialism and start a class war. The right way for the government is to let the so-called bloggers to know that Bangladesh is a religious country and people are living in harmony. The people will not allow the non-believers to safely work as an anti-religious force.
Many fear the presence of a conspiracy here by certain leftist quarters to make Bangladesh unstable unleashing religion-based strife and fishing in the troubled water here.
It is really unacceptable that a number of bloggers were killed within this year but the remedial measure at political level was not forthcoming from the government.
But we are happy to note that the government has given the right message this time to the religion haters that calling themselves deceptively as bloggers, they will not get away. The religion haters will not be tolerated. They will also be liable to be punished. It is a bold decision for an otherwise government in the trap of socialism.
