Goods worth Tk 1.87 cr looted in 3 dists: 1 killed

In separate incidents, robbers looted valuables worth Tk 1.87 crore in Sylhet, Madaripur and Dhaka districts early Friday, killing an elderly man and injuring two shop employees.
In Sylhet, sexagenarian Abdul Jalil, 65, was killed in an attack by a gang of robbers while they were committing robbery at his house at Chakrabani village in Beanibazar upazila in the early hours.
Locals said, the bandits, numbering 10/12, stormed into the house of Abdul Jalil around 4am breaking open the door and started looting valuables keeping the house inmates hostage at gunpoint.
The hoodlums stabbed Jalil as he shouted seeking help, leaving him dead on the spot.
Later, the gangsters made away with 6 tolas of gold, Tk 25,000 in cash and other valuables worth Tk 5 lakh.
Officer-in-charge of Beanibazar Police Station Abul Kalam Azad said police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
In Madaripur, robbers injured two shop employees and looted gold, cash money and other valuables worth Tk 1.50 crore from 13 shops in Shibchar upazila in the early hours.
Locals said a gang of 40-45 armed robbers on four microbuses swooped on the shops, including four jewellery ones, in the bazaar at about 2am and looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables from the shop.
They also chopped the two employees of the shop as they tried to resist them.
On information, police super Abu Bakar Siddique visited the spot on Friday morning.
In Dhaka, bandits raided 11 jewellery shops at Churain Bazar in Nawabganj upazila at about 2am and looted 55 tolas of gold, 280 tolas of silver, Tk 9.58 lakh in cash and other valuables worth Tk 32 lakh.
Police and locals said a gang of armed robbers, numbering 40-50, tied up seven night guards and looted the valuables from the shops.
Officer-in-charge of Nawabganj Police Station M Saidur Rahman said, they visited the spot and arrested an alleged robber, Julun Mondal, 40, from there.
