Staff Reporter :
Gono Forum candidates elected in the 11th general election will not take their oaths as lawmakers in the 11th Parliament.
Gono Forum General Secretary and Jatiya Oikyafront Chief Coordinator Mostafa Moshin Montu said it in a press release.
He said, Jatiya Oikyafront has been formed to ensure the voting right of the country’s people, and to hold a free, fair and acceptable election. Sadly that has been violated by the tarnished election. Jatiya Oikyafront is still united. Some news portal published that the Gono Forum MPs are going to take oath as Members of Parliament. That is not true. It is baseless. No decision has been taken to join Parliament.
Montu urged the people not to yield to any propaganda against the alliance.
Quoted by Sultan Mohammad Mansur, some news portal published that Gono Forum candidates Mansur in Moulvibazar-2 and Mokabbir Khan in Sylhet-2 elected in the 11th general election will take oath.
Gono Forum took part in the election as a key component of major opposition coalition ‘Jatiya Oikyafront’.
The party won two seats – Mansur in Moulvibazar-2 and Mokabbir Khan in Sylhet-2 – while BNP won six constituencies. Ruling Awami League alliance won 289.
Since the day of polls, BNP has been alleging of mass rigging and has been keeping from joining the Parliament despite rumours that Oikyafront are divided.
On January 3, in a meeting held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, Jatiya Oikya Front declared that their elected members will not take their oaths as lawmakers.
