The Victory Day along with the golden jubilee of the country’s independence was celebrated in the divisional city and the district on Thursday with a renewed vow for building a happy, prosperous and non-communal Bangladesh with spirit of the Great War of Liberation.
Divisional and district administrations, Sylhet City Corporation, scores of political, socio-cultural, voluntary, professional bodies and trade organizations placed wreaths at Sylhet Centrel Shaheed minar.
City and district units of Bangladesh Awami League celebrated the day through various programs like victory rally, placing of wreaths, discussion meeting and other cultural functions. The programs of the day heralded with 50 gun salute at dawn on the local Police Line Parade Ground. In the early morning, streams of people irrespective of male and female thronged the city streets leading to the Shaheed Minars.
The programs also included hoisting of the national flag atop all public and private buildings, illumination and decoration of road islands, roadsides, educational institutions and buildings with national flags and colored miniature posters and banners.
District administration organized a colorful march past at district stadium with participation of valiant freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, fire service, BNCC, boys scout, girl guides, school, college and madrasa students and members of different orphanages, safe home and cultural organizations.
Divisional Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain accompanied by DIG of Police of Sylhet Range Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, SMP Commissioner Nisharul Arif, Deputy Commissioner M. Kazi Emdadul Islam and Superintendent of Police Md. Forid Uddin hoisted the national flag and took salutes of the march-past.
Gazipur Correspondent reports: Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) has celebrated the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Great Victory (The Great Victory Day 2021) today (Thursday, 16th December) with due dignity and various programs. Various programs have been organized at BARI to commemorate the day by maintaining health hygiene.
The day’s programmes include hoisting the national flag with national anthem and awarding the Guard of Honor, laying wreath at the mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, victory rally, liberation war based still photo exhibition, discussion meeting and reception of the heroic freedom fighters working at BARI, virtual participation in the oath reading ceremony which was led by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, documentary exhibition, drawing & essay competition, poetry recitation, different types of sports, cultural and prize giving ceremony, special prayers and illumination.
BARI Director General Dr. Debasish Sarker inaugurated the day’s programs by hoisting the national flag and laying wreath at the mural of Bangabandhu in front of BARI head quarter. Kamrul Hasan, Director (Training & Communication) Dr. Muhammad Shamsul Alom, BARI Director (Planning & Evaluation) Dr. Rina Rani Saha, Director (Research) Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam, BARI Director (Tuber Crops Research Centre) Dr. Sohela Akhter, Director (Horticulture Research Centre) Dr. Apurba Kanti Chowdhury, Director (Oilseed Research Centre) Dr. Md. Abdul Latif Akanda, heads of the divisions, leaders of BARI Scientists Association (BARISA), BARI Employees Welfare Society (BARIKA), BARI 4th Class Welfare Society (BARICHA), Diploma Krishibid Parishad and scientists, officers, employees and workers of all levels of the institute, teachers and students of BARI High School and Anand Shishukanan were present on the occasion. Special prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the departed souls of the martyred freedom fighters and for the well-being of the war-wounded freedom fighters and for the peace, prosperity and progress of the nation.
