Md. Habibur Rahman :
Bangladeshis all around the world are commemorating ‘Golden Jubilee Celebrations of its independence this year. The country obtained victory at the cost of an inconceivable loss of life and persecution on December 16, 1971. Though Bangladeshi people have lost their beloved ones, they were happy due to their victory on this day against the imperial forces of Pakistan. Pakistani army capitulated to the allied forces of Bangladesh in the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan after nine months of the Liberation War on this auspicious day.
It has changed the color of the country by spreading red and green across Bangladesh. We have seen that people are holding national flags to celebrate the victory day. People are wearing their apparel respectively Panjabi, Sari, and other dresses with the matching red and green color of the flag. The philosophy of red and green regarding the flag of Bangladesh reminds people of many things. Though it has various observations and philosophical viewpoints to the researchers, writers, and poets. The philosophy of red indicates the sense of glory, rebellion, and uprising for the nations. Basically, red reflects the bloodshed of our forefathers who sacrificed their lives for victory and independence. On the other hand, green indicates rich vegetation of our beautiful country. Both red and green are the philosophical identity of our nation regarding the victory in the liberation war of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh has already obtained many national and international achievements in many sectors since its inception. The country has become a role model for other countries in some sectors like women’s empowerment, infrastructure development and adaptation to climate change. This is really amazing for us if we can retain our position in the right way and move forward to sustainable development ensuring good governance. The public-private partnership must work to balance the development initiatives and justice for all.
Bangladesh has already achieved its least developed country (LDC) status for fulfilling all criteria of the United Nations. It is one of the low-income countries out of 46 LDC countries that are facing diversified structural challenges to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, LDCs need to place a special focus on economic and environmental challenges to reach its next destination. Bangladesh will get LDC’s advantages until 2026 as the country’s alteration will be operational in 2026 according to the United Nations Committee for Development Policy (UNCDP). On the other hand, Bangladesh has to prioritize its roadmap to become a developed nation by 2041.
The respective authorities need to review the national and international research findings in order to address the domestic and international setbacks plaguing the country. Besides, the government needs to generate skilled people to compete with the international market and foreign talents. On the other hand, the Bangladesh government has to emphasize quality education at educational institutions along with vocational training to compete with unemployment challenges and tackle the issue of educated unemployment. Besides, the relevant stakeholders should think about creating a balance between technological opportunities and 4th industrial revolution challenges. Some research articles and notable scholars have proposed and outlined the roadmap of sustainable developments and recommendations for policymakers to ensure positive change in society. Prof. Rehman Sobhan, a renowned economist and intellectual figure says that though Bangladesh has shown outstanding performances in the social and economic sector, it did not show good performances in the following sectors followed by institutionalization of democracy, improvement of democracy, and protection of the environment. Therefore, the above-mentioned observation and recommendation can be addressed to reach a new milestone of development.
Bangladesh is situated in a strategic location where powerful states are trying to influence this region. Therefore, the country needs to focus on domestic and international security as the country has gained laudable achievements in international affairs along with the international community. Bangladesh has made tremendous success in global peace and security followed by the United Nations Peacekeeping mission, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), addressing the humanitarian crisis of Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Rohingya Nationals in Bangladesh. Recently, the United Nations has adopted the proposal of Bangladesh regarding the culture of peace on December 09, 2021, 2021. On the other hand, this resolution was adopted first time on September 13, 1999. Therefore, the country needs to address domestic and international challenges to ensure peace for all.
It is not possible for the government to change everything without the support of the citizens. People need to be more empathetic toward other people’s problems. Last but not the least, we need to work together to reach new milestones of development. The respective authority requires us to focus on and address the disparity of economy and knowledge.
