Golden jubilee celebration of independence begins Dec 16

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said the celebration of golden jubilee of the country’s independence will start on December 16, reports BSS.
“The government also wants to complete the celebrations of Mujib Barsho before the December 16,” he told reporters after a meeting of the sub-committee, formed on security affairs over marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at his ministry conference room. Many foreign guests are expected to attend the celebrations, he said, adding “Specifically, two heads of state and government may join the celebration programmes. The two-day event (December 16-17) will be held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad.”
“The celebrations will also take place on December 16 at the National Parade Square,” he said, adding security arrangements will be strict in and around the venue areas.
“No vehicles having gas cylinder will be allowed within one kilometer of the event and festival areas. There will be no makeshift and floating shops during those events, and moreover, construction work will be stopped in the respective areas,” Kamal added.
He said that adequate security will be ensured at the mausoleum of the Father of the Nation and across the country.
The minister said that a folk fair will be held on November 24-29 at Tungipara, Gopalganj and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected visit the fair.
Responding to a query regarding union parisad (UP) elections, he said, “The law enforcement agencies, including the police, are doing their jobs. “Actions are being taken against those involved in the violence that took place during UP elections across the country.”
“Security forces are working to make elections fair and impartial,” he said.
