Customs officials arrested a man along with 268 tolas of gold worth about Tk 1.30 crore at Shah Amanat International Airport yesterday morning. The arrestee is identified as Ali Ajgar, hailing from Hathazari upazila of the district.
Md Alamgir Hossain, assistant commissioner (customs) of the airport, said customs officials recovered 268 tolas of gold from the possession of Ajgar, who was in Dubai for 20 years.
He arrived at the airport by a flight of Fly Dubai from Dubai around 9am.
Four abducted tobacco farmers rescued in Bandarban: A joint force of Army, Border Guard Bangladesh and police rescued four tobacco farmers from a mountain at Baishari Union under Naikhongchhari Upazila here on Friday midnight.
The joint forces also arrested eight suspected kidnappers in this connection.
The victims- Abdul Aziz, 40, Abdur Rahim, 25, Abu Syed, 41, and Shah Alam, 20, were kidnapped at gunpoint from a tobacco farm at remote Ledu Burir Char area. Later, the abductors demanded ransom through mobile phone. Officer-in-Charge of Naikhongchhari Police Station Md. Shah Alamgir said police arrested two kidnappers, and on the basis of their information, they started investigation.
Baishari Police Investigation Centre Officer Md. Abu Musa said the joint forces started the rescue operation at 8pm on Friday and rescued the kidnapped.
