Inclusion with a section of unscrupulous dishonest civil aviation and Biman employees , the gold smuggling is going on unabated.
It is alleged that with the hope of huge bribe amount , the unscrupulous employees of airport are extending cooperation to the smugglers.
Airport sources said in the last six months, about 130 kgs gold were seized at Chittagong International Airport so far.
It is learnt, the gold smuggling now has turned a regular phenomenon. Almost in every Middle East flight carriers, gold are coming regularly but unlikely one or two consignments are being detained by customs intelligence.
The large consignment of 49 kgs gold was seized on February 6 last and 10 kgs were recovered on Feb 21 last .
Almost maximum gold are coming through Dubai flight and Bangladesh Biman , Oman and Air Arabia flight.
Media sources said , in each flight maximum 3 to 4 passengers are involved in carrying gold.
Different sources said, with the help of different lower grade employees of different agencies engaged in airport are involved to pass the smuggled gold.
Basically class 3 and class 4 employees are involved in this illegal practice.
In the meantime one employee of Civil Aviation Md. Morshed has been transferred from Chittagong Airport as punishment for alleged involvement with the smuggling syndicate, sources said.
While contacted Additional Deputy Commission of Police (Immigration) Md. Mizanur Rahman told The New Nation that beyond proper declarations, nothing allowed to cross the immigration after proper scanning from immigration and immigration police always alert about it.
He said the allegations of gold smuggling by the immigration officials are not true and we are keeping watch on our lower staff .
