The increases price of gold in the markets across the country has come into effect from Friday.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BJA) announced the new prices in a press release.
According to the latest decision, prices of gold will be increased by Tk 1,225 per vari (11.664 grams) in the local market.
The new price was scheduled to come into effect from Friday.
According to the new rate, 22-carat gold will sell at Tk 47,415 per vari, while 21-carat gold price will be Tk 45,315 and 18-carat gold will be sold at Tk 37,442 per vari.
However, fashion lovers have expressed their dismay over the BJA’s decision of price hike.
“We the fashion lovers have already been disappointed by the sky rocking prices of the precious metal. The new hike will put another damper to our fate. Many women of middle income group for the last few months are switching to other low cost metals like silver jewelery due to high prices of gole,” Amina Amreen, a customer of gold ornament at the New Market area told the New Nation Friday.
She also urged the government to bring the ornament sector under its control, as industry insiders are so far the sole decision maker of price hike and in other related issues.
Meanwhile, no BJA leaders could be contracted for comment on the issue.
