The by-election for the post of Golapganj Upazila Parishad Chairman will be held only two days later (15 Jun). The official campaign will end at midnight on Monday. Last minute campaign is going on around the election. Candidates are spending a lot of time in campaigning from dawn to midnight every day. Voters are going door to door with assurances of various developments. The activists and supporters are also continuing the campaign in parallel.
It is learned that the schedule for the by-election in Golapganj was announced due to the death of the late Upazila Parishad Chairman Advocate Iqbal Ahmed Chowdhury. According to the schedule, the by-election for the post of chairman will be held on Wednesday. Manzur Qadir Shafi Chowdhury, nominated candidate of ruling party Awami League and member of Sylhet district Awami League, is contesting in the election with the symbol of Elim boat and Shafiq Uddin, former VP of Dhaka South Government College and convener of New Jersey State Awami League. As there are only two candidates in the election, the discussion is spreading throughout the upazila. Two candidates are contesting in 11 unions of the upazila including the municipality. They are equally campaigning.
Political analysts say both candidates are campaigning. Manzur Qadir Shafi Chowdhury Elim, the candidate for the boat symbol, is in a strong position with the expectations of Trinamool Awami League and common people.
