Title aspirant Gokulam Kerala FC of India moved to the semifinal of the prestigious Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup Football tournament with a 2-0 goal victory over Chennai City FC of India in their third and last group B match held today at MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram.
With this win, Gokulam improved their tally with seven points from three matches while all losers Chennai City FC, which already made their exit from the tournament race, yet to open their account playing the same number of outings.
In the day’s match, Gokulam’s Ugandan recruit Henry Kisekka put Gokulam FC ahead early in the 8th minute with a push from the hand shake distance, after an attempt taken by Lalromawia fisted by Chennai FC’s goalkeeper, came to his way.
Three minutes later, Kisekka doubled the lead with a perfect placing shot from inside the D box following a free kick from 15 yards.
After the resumption, Gululam took a defensive strategy not to concede any goal while Chennai City tried hard to come back but they hardly failed to put pressure on Gokulam Kerala.
Gokulam dominated the entire proceeding and notched their deserving victory while Chennai City got some scoring chances but failed to convert those into a goal due to lack of proper finishing.
Midfielder Nathaniel Garcia of Gokulam Kerala was named the player of the match for his impressive performance.
Earlier, Gokulam Kerala made an auspicious start as they beat Bashudhara Kings by 3-1 goals in their group opening match and shared point playing to a goalless draw with Terenggunu FC of Malaysia in their second group match.
On the other hand, Chennai City FC suffered a 3-5 goal defeat to Terenggunu FC in their group opening match and went down a 2-3 goal lose to Bashundhara Kings in their group second match.
