Collective effort of all government and non-government organizations concerned is very vital for attaining all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets for overall development of the nation.
“Bangladesh will be a role model in the world in achieving the criteria of the SDGs by 2030. The country had earlier achieved the target of Millennium Development Goal (MDG) by 2015 as set by the United Nations”, said Abul Kalam Azad, Chief Coordinator (SDG) of Prime Minister Office.
He was addressing a divisional level SDG affairs presentation meeting at conference hall of Deputy Commissioner here today as chief guest.
Member of Planning Commission Dr Shamsul Alam, Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Hannan and Additional Commissioners Mumir Hossain and Aminul Islam also spoke with Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin in the chair.
Abul Kalam Azad said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought Bangladesh to be showcased as an international model for SDG 6, involving clean water and sanitation, through adopting appropriate strategy and action plan.
“We are working relentlessly for preparing an action plan to make Bangladesh as an example to be followed by the world,” he said adding that the present government believes in balanced development.
Mr Azad said all sections of people including the government and non-government organizations were incorporated in the SDG implementation process. So, the field level officials and elected public representatives should discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to supplement the government endeavors.
Personally, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much confident that Bangladesh could show its capacity in this area the way it achieved the MDG goals.
Bangladesh, he said, by now showed epoch making success to ensure people access to safe drinking water and sanitation and now “we want to ensure safe water for hundred percent of our population”.
Responding to various suggestions and observations, Azad said all the SDGs and targets could be achieved through collective efforts within the stipulated time.
