Grand Master (GM) Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh Navy became champion in the Amin Mohammad Group & AST Beverage Limited International Rating Chess Tournament bagging maximum eight points from eight matches at the Auditorium Lounge of National Sports Council Tower on Saturday. The tournament is held on the occasion of the Independence Day and National Day.
In the 8th round games, Zia beat FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Sheikh Russel Memorial Sporting Club. FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy obtained the 2nd position with 7 points. Six players are sharing 3rd position with 6½ points each. They are: FM Mehdi Hasan Parag and FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Sheikh Russel Memorial Sporting Club, Uten, FM Rezaul Haque of Titas Club, S M Sharon of Bangladesh Navy and Feroz Ahmed.
The 9th or last round games will start today (Sunday) from 10:30 am at the same venue and prize distribution ceremony will be held after ending of the games.
