Grand Master Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh became 11th in the Dubai Open Chess Tournament, which was held at Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Grand Master (GM) Ziaur Rahman earned six-and-a-half points in nine round matches. Zia and other six participants bagged 6.5 points each. Then, Zia finished 11th position after the tie-breaker. Zia lost only one match in this tournament. GM Ziaur Rahman won five matches, drew three matches and lost to one match.
In the ninth round match, Zia won over Muradli Mahammad of Azerbaijan on Sunday. On Saturday, in the 8th or penultimate round game, GM Zia won against FM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan of Sri Lanka. Grand Master Ziaur Rahman achieved 19 rating points from the tournament and was awarded US $ 1200. GM Aravindh Chithambaram of India became champion with 7.5 points, while GM Predka Alexandr of Russia finished runner-up and GM Praggnanadhaa of India became third.
A total of 172 players including 30 Grand Masters, two Woman Grandmasters, 30 International Masters and three Woman International Masters took part in this prestigious chess competition.
