GM Ziaur Rahman of Sheikh Russel Memorial Sporting Club became unbeaten champion in the MCC International Rapid Rating Chess Tournament organised by Mohammadpur Chess Club under the guidance of Bangladesh Chess Federation.
GM Zia earned 8.5 points out of 9 games to clinch the title the event.
The event was held on Saturday in Badshah Faisal Institute at Mohammadpur.
Four players earned 7.5 points each, in the tie-breaking system GM Reefat Bin Sattar became runner-up. FM Kh. Aminul Islam of Bangladesh Navy became 3rd, GM Mollah Abdullah Al Rakib of Saif Sporting Club became 4th and Shafiq Ahmed of Titas Club became 5th.
Seven players earned 7 points each and became 6th to 12th positions. They are: Md. Sharif Hossain of Bangladesh Navy, FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon of Janata Bank Officers Welfare Society, IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin of Bangladesh Navy, Saimon Siddiqur Rahman, CM Mahtabuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy, WIM Shamima Akter Liza of Leonine Chess Club and Abdul Momin of Sonali Bank Sports & Recreation Club.
