The overall number of global Covid cases has now surged past 205 million, an alarming figure that paints a bleak picture of the second wave of the pandemic in several countries.
According to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 205,368,850 while the death toll from the virus reached 4,334,088 on Friday morning.
So far, 4,570,459,316 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.
The US, which is the world’s worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 36,305,005 cases. Besides, 619,098 people have lost their lives in the US to date, as per the JHU data.
Brazil, which has the world’s second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States, and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India, recorded 566,988 deaths and 20,285,067 cases, respectively, on Thursday.
Neighbouring India recorded a total of 32,117,052 cases, the third-highest in the world, and 430,285 deaths till Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, Indonesia has logged 42,988 Coronavirus-related deaths in the past 28 days, which is highest across the globe during this time, officials said on Friday.
The country has recorded a total of 3,774,155 cases and 113,664 deaths so far.
