The overall number of global Covid cases is fast nearing 221 million, as the world is still struggling to contain the second wave of the pandemic despite mass inoculations.
According to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 220,624, 875 and the death toll reached 4,566,726 on Monday morning.
So far, 5,446,556,336 vaccine doses have been administered across the world.
The US, which is the world’s worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 39,941,581 cases. Besides, 648,467 people have lost their lives in the US to date, as per the JHU data.
Brazil currently has the world’s second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India.
The country has recorded 20,890,779 cases with 583,628 fatalities so far, according to the health ministry.
India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 32,988,673 on Sunday, as 42,766 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed its federal health ministry’s latest data.
Besides, as many as 308 deaths due to the pandemic since Saturday morning took the total death toll to 440,533.
