Global assistance to achieve SDG emphasized

Public Administration Senior Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury laid emphasis on increasing assistance of the world community to help Bangladesh achieving UN adopted Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) within 2030.
“Despite resource constrains, Bangladesh has been able to make progress in various SDGs including poverty alleviation, decrease in infant mortality rate and development of maternal health,” he said this on Monday while addressing at the 197th session of UNESCO Executive Board at its headquarters in Paris, an official release said here on Tuesday.
The senior secretary said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received the United Nations highest environmental accolade – “Champions of the Earth” – for her outstanding leadership in protecting Bangladesh from natural calamities and for the socio-economic development of the country.
He expressed satisfaction over the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) commitment to deal the issues concerning climate change, provide assistance in quality development in education including primary education, women empowerment, proper use of sea and its resources and build a peaceful society.
UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova presided over the session, which was joined by six-member Bangladesh delegation including Bangladesh Ambassador in France M Shahidul Islam and UNESCO affairs secretary of Bangladesh National Commission M Monjur Hossain.
