The Public Works Department (PWD) king contractor, Jubo League Leader Golam Kibria Shamim, has offered Tk 10 crore and more to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) just for his release just one time.
GK Shamim also tried to manage the elite force by alluring residential flats if they create any loophole for escaping from the detention.
The infamous king placed the offer to RAB when its members put on handcuffs on his hands after taking his armed bodyguards under the custody at his resident in the capital on Friday, reports media quoting a RAB official who took part in the raid in Shamim’s house.
He also tried to maintain lobbying from the high-ups leaders to release him when the RAB official entered his room. And some of them also urged to release Shamim. But RAB men rejected all proposals and took him to RAB custody as per decision, according to the RAB official.
Another RAB official said that Shamim also refused to board on RAB’s van after bring him out of his residence on the day. After that, the RAB team took him at RAB Headquarters by its van.
The elite force, during a primary interrogation, has come to know about the strong nexus that helped him (Shamim) an exclusive control over the Public Works Department, he said. Sources at the intelligence wing of the elite force said, Shamim chose only corrupt officials from the Public Works Department because they were adept in tender manipulation.
Earlier, Shamim also allegedly tried to convince the RAB officials to avoid a raid in his office at Niketon in the city.
“He offered the RAB officials money whatever an amount they required to avert the drive and his arrest,” the sources claimed.
A RAB official, who interrogated GK Shamim, anonymously said that he (Shamim) has at least five luxurious houses in capital’s different areas.
“We have found the details about the houses established in Bashabo and Niketon areas. They are equipped with modern amenities and have a strong technology-based security system,” he said.
Shamim used to sit in these houses to make business deals, the law enforcing agency member said, adding that many government officials also used to go there for entertainment at his invitation.
However, RAB legal and media wing Director Sarwer Bin Kashem declined to make any comment on the interrogation of GK Shamim.
“We have got lots of information about his illegal businesses, and he also disclosed the names of a few government officials and politicians who were involved with him,” he said.
“But, we cannot disclose the details right now,” he added.
The RAB arrested GK Shamim on Friday and seized Tk 1.80 crore in cash from his house and the Fixed Deposit Receipt worth Tk 165 crore from his office at Niketon.
According to the case statement, GK Shamim is a marked criminal. The guns, confiscated from him and his gunmen, were used illegally to spread fear among people. He also used the arms for tender manipulation, extortion, and operating narcotics and casino business.
It is also mentioned that a huge portion of the money he obtained from doing illegal activities was laundered outside the country.
