Staff Reporter :
The High Court (HC) on Monday asked the government to fix the salary under the 10th grade for the head masters of the government primary schools.
As per the order, both the trained and non-trained headmasters of the primary schools will get the salary under the 10th grade from March 9, 2014.
The HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury delivered the verdict after hearing a writ petition filed by 45 headmasters including Reaz Parvez, President of Bangladesh Government Primary Headmasters Association,
seeking necessary orders to this effect. According to the HC order, the headmasters will get Tk 16,000 basic salary per month instead of Tk 12,000, which is under the 11th grade, Reaz told the reporters.
Petitioners’ lawyer Salauddin Dolon told the reporters that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on March 9, 2014 directed the authorities concerned to give the head teachers the second-class status (10th grade) and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued a gazette notification on the same day.
But the ministry strategically fixed the salary scale under the 11th grade for the trained head teachers and 12th grade for the untrained head teachers, he said adding the other second-class officials were given the same scale on that year.
Then 45 headmasters including Reaz Parvez, President of Bangladesh Government Primary Headmasters Association, filed a writ petition with the HC seeking necessary orders to this effect. The HC issued a rule on March 5, 2018, in this regard and declared the rule absolute yesterday.
