A girl student of Class-VII of Pabantala High School of village Kumlai within Baintala Union under Rampal Upazila in the district was saved from the curse of child marriage due to the intervention of police of Rampal PS on Monday.
Police and the locals said that one Khan Aus, father of the girl student decided to give marriage his minor daughter with one Sayed Yamin (25) of the same locality and it was scheduled to be held on Monday.
The local people tried to convince the father to refrain from it. But the father was very adamant to translate his decision into practice.
Finding no other alternative some villagers brought the matter to the notice of Iqbal Bahar Chowdhujry, Officer-in-charge of local Rampal PS. Then the Officer-in-charge of the PS directed ASI Asaduzzaman to do the needful.
According to the direction, the ASI went to the spot and convinced the father of the girl not to materialize his wrong decision. The ASI warned the father that if he would not refrain from it legal action would be taken against him.
