A landlord has been accused of suffocating a minor girl to death as the mother of the baby did not agree to make an illicit affair with him. The victim’s name is Nadi (4), daughter of Zakir Hossain in Paltakanda village of Bhairab upazila. Police have arrested landlord Sohail Mia (35), son of late Majid Miah in Sohail area of Bhairab town.
Nadi’s father Zakir Hossain said that about six months ago, they started renting a house in Sohail Mia’s in Paltakanda village of Bhairab.
For a few days, the landlord was coming to Nadir’s mother with a bad proposal. When she did not agree, he often harassed and threatened to kill her daughter.
Sohail again made a bad proposal on Tuesday night. She refused and since then Nadi had not been found. The matter was later announced to the mike of the mosque in the area and the woman informed her relatives.
Nadi’s father said the matter was reported to the police at night. Later, the police came and recovered the body of the child from the garbage and water hyacinth bushes on the east side of Paltakanda Government Primary School.
Officer-in Charge (OC) in Bhairab Police Station Golam Mostafa said, the body was sent to Kishoreganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
When contacted, Additional SP (Crime) Noor-e-Alam told the New Nation that the child was thought to have been strangled to death with a towel or cloth wrapped around her neck. However, only after the autopsy it will be clear how she was killed.
Additional SP (Crime), and Senior police officials visited on the spot. Homeowner Sohail has been arrested on charges of involvement in the incident, Additional SP Noor-e-Alam added.
