Girl gang-raped, 3 held in Rangpur

A ninth-grade schoolgirl, having survived gang rape, is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition at the One-Stop Crisis Centre of Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Informed, police managed to arrest four suspected rapists between Thursday and Friday, one of whom fled from their custody.
The arrestees were identified as Md Mithun, Md Nasim, and Md Al-Amin, confirmed Taraganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ismail Hossain, while declining to comment about the escapee Nuruzzaman.
The incident took place when the girl’s family left her alone to visit an ill relative at Damadarpur Kazipara in Soyar union under Taraganj upazila in Rangpur Monday night.
According to the family and police, finding the girl alone in her house, key accused Mithun and his four accomplices broke in and gang-raped her. Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed in and rescued her while the culprits fled.
The girl was initially taken to the Taraganj Upazila Health Complex. Later, she was referred to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
The doctor on duty said that her condition was still critical.
OC Ismail Hossain said: “The girl’s father is preparing to file a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.”
