A girl student allegedly committed suicide after being whipped by a teacher at Bharella Shah Nuruddin High School in Burichong upazila of Comilla district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Tania Akhter, a class VIII student of the school and daughter of
Shahid Ullah, a resident of Bharella village.
The victim’s mother Josna Akhter alleged that Assistant Headmaster of the school Habibur Rahman beat Tania mercilessly over a trifling matter in front of her classmates on Monday noon.
Tania did not take the matter easily. After returning home she took poison in the evening and fell sick.
She was rushed to a local clinic, and as her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in the night.
The doctors of CMCH referred to take her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). But Tania died on her way to DMCH at around 9pm.
Uttam Kumar Barua, Officer-in-Charge of Burichong Police Station, said legal actions will be taken if they get complaint against the teacher.
