Girder, pier cap fall: Probe starts today

A seven-member investigation committee, which formed after a part of a launching girder of BRT project in front of the airport and an under-construction pier cap in Uttara fell, will start their investigation from today (Tuesday).
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project director ASM Illias Hossain confirmed it to The New Nation on Monday night.
He said that the seven-member committee, led by Joint Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division Anisur Rahman, will probe the two incidents. They were asked to submit a report within seven working days.
They started their work tomorrow (Tuesday), he added.
Asked about the injured, he said two Chinese citizens are undergoing treatment in hospital. And they are out of danger.
Illias Hossain also said that a Chinese manufacturer team will come to Dhaka for inquiring the launching girder. They will examine actually why it fell and how to fix the machine. Probe committee head Anisur Rahman told The New Nation that they got the letter and they start investigation tomorrow (Tuesday). They will say actually why and how it happened after finished the investigation.
Earlier, at least six workers, including three Chinese nationals, involved in construction of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Line-3 were injured as a part of a launching girder fell on them while they were working near Dhaka airport on Monday.
Hours before the accident, an under-construction pier cap of the project in Uttara collapsed on same day.
The official said that some of workers told them, a truck hit the support while others said it got displaced on its own. The real cause will be known after investigation.
