The wildcat strike of a section of Ghat workers to press their 9-point demand including the wage hike has continued for the second consecutive day on Monday.
Meanwhile, the police arrested Idris Ali, Convenor of the Ghat-godown Workers Action Union, on Monday afternoon from Majhirgaht area. It may be mentioned that a section of Ghat workers went on a wildcat strike since Sunday morning to press their 9-point demand.
As a result, cargo handling in 12 ghats among the total of 16 ghats remained suspended. The Ghat-godown Workers Action Union has given the call of the strike.
For the sudden strike, nearly 100 lighter vessels have been stranded in the River Karnaphuli. But another section of the workers have continued their works in 4 ghats. So, lighter of cargo from the mother vessels has partially been hampered.
