New signings Carlos Alena and Take Kubo helped Getafe return to winning ways with a 3-1 win over struggling Elche on Monday night in La Liga.
The game had been postponed for 24 hours due to bad weather which had prevented Getafe from traveling on Saturday, and they soon fell behind to Raul Guti’s third-minute goal for the home side.
However, Marc Cucurella leveled the scores before half-time, and Elche’s luck ran out in the second half when Marcone was sent off for a second yellow card, and Lucas Boye, Fidel and Diego Gonzalez all suffered injuries.
Kubo set up Getafe’s second goal for Jamie Mata to score following a rebound and Angel Rodriguez sealed the win from the penalty spot five minutes from time.
In Monday’s second game, bottom side Huesca lost 2-0 at home to Real Betis. The loss is likely to cost coach Michel his job in the wake of their midweek Copa del Rey defeat to third-tier Alcoyano.
Aissa Mandi punished poor finishing from Huesca, who wasted a host of chances, when he opened the scoring in the 78th minute following a corner, and although Betis’ Paul Akouokou was sent off shortly afterwards, Antonio Sarabia’s header in injury-time confirmed their win.
In the weekend’s games, FC Barcelona won 4-0 in Granada, Real Madrid were held 0-0 away to Osasuna, and Atletico Madrid’s home game against Athletic Bilbao fell victim to bad weather in the capital.
