Germany has made new development commitments to Bangladesh worth 285.3 million euros as the two countries concluded the development cooperation negotiations of 2018.
Germany also pledged to provide further assistance in the amount of 29 million euros to Rohingyas and host communities in Cox’s Bazar during the meeting in the city on Monday, the German Embassy said on Thursday.
The new commitments were made in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector, rule of law and good governance, and adaptation to climate change in urban areas.
In addition, support to the management of the Sundarbans Mangrove Forests was agreed.
ERD Additional Secretary Md Khalilur Rahman Khan led the Bangladesh side while Head of South Asia Division in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Wolfram Klein led the German side.
The two delegations had an “open and fruitful” exchange of views on ongoing projects and programmes in the field of financial and technical cooperation as well as on future development cooperation.
With the latest funding commitment, the overall amount of German development cooperation to Bangladesh since 1972 would reach three billion euros, the embassy said.
